As an Educator

My goal is to help prepare the next generation of construction professionals using hands-on, real projects, and meaningful gamification. I want to continue to share what I know with students, young professionals, and seasoned professionals, leveraging the knowledge that I have gained from my years in the field and in academia. I am always touched by the messages from my former students about how they are putting what I taught them in class to good use in the field, and how I helped to shape their professional journey.

I hope to continue to make a difference in the construction sector that I am so passionate about – the heavy civil construction sector.

I want to give back and create value in the heavy civil construction sector, as well as help advance and reinforce the value of construction education.

The Release of The Interactive Webbook Units

We’re proud to officially announce the release of The Interactive Webbook Units on Heavy Civil Construction Materials and Methods, a unique interactive resource designed to help students, young professionals, and seasoned professionals with real-world, job-ready skills in heavy civil construction.

The webbook units are authored by Scott Jennings and me, and published by GP2Z LLC, a gamified educational content consultant and publisher.

🚧 This isn’t just another high-level overview or static textbook. It’s a practical, resource-filled, field-tested interactive webbook specific to heavy civil construction items of work.

What Are the Available Webbook Units?

The webbook units are modular, interactive, and practical guides on heavy civil construction materials and methods, including the following units:

  • Earthwork
  • Stormwater Drainage Systems
  • Base, Pavement, and Miscellaneous Construction
  • Foundations & Retaining Walls
  • Structural Concrete, Structural Steel & Timber Structures
  • Student edition

These units are not passive PDFs or eBooks — they are interactive webbooks. An interactive webbook opens a whole new world for learning, an opportunity to deliver extensive and rich interactive content to help gamify learning. This allows us to deliver new and exciting interactive content that is project-based and reflects real-world project scenarios. We have integrated interactive H5P content, calculators, simulation apps, and real-project exercises to reinforce understanding as you go.

Why this Matters: How the Webbook Units Create Value?

1.     For educators in Civil Engineering (CE), Construction Engineering (ConE), or Construction Management (CM) interested in exposing their students to heavy civil construction materials and methods, the student edition of the webbook comes with a recommended syllabus and real-project exercises, and can be easily integrated into the curriculum.

2.     For students and construction professionals aiming to refresh and close knowledge gaps in heavy civil construction materials and methods, the webbook units provide an opportunity to not only close those gaps but also to gain a competitive edge that gets them noticed easily for the value they bring to the table.

3.     For general contractors that are engaged in heavy civil construction projects, the webbook units could add value to the companies if their teams use and apply the many skill sets from the webbook units.

4.     For the construction industry, the shortage of construction professionals in the heavy civil sector is a significant problem. To strengthen the recruitment pipeline, we need to encourage more students to pursue careers in heavy civil construction. This means exposing them to heavy civil construction projects and practices, and providing them with the right tools. Which is exactly what the webbook units are for. We all know that nobody wants a grueling career path, and people prefer to enter fields they’re better prepared for. Interns and graduates want to start strong without needing much guidance.

5. Online access means that learning content from the webbook units can be accessed from anywhere at any time. The webbook units provide interactive and engaging content to help keep the reader focused, allowing them to learn at their own pace and time.

6.     For State DOTs hoping to expose their interns and field engineers to how the general contractors plan, estimate, schedule, and execute State DOT projects, the webbook units should allow the interns and field engineers to manage the projects from the perspective of the general contractor’s deep dive, which is needed to deliver the projects on time and on budget.

7.     In the coming days, we plan to implement a feature that will allow anyone to gift a webbook unit to another person. Education, we know, is the best gift one can give or receive. By giving someone one of the heavy civil construction webbook units, you are giving them a chance to learn, grow, develop new skills, empower themselves, and help to create real value for themselves, their family, the construction companies they work for, and the construction industry in general.

9.     For construction-related programs that offer certificate in Heavy Civil Construction, it is important to find ways to increase interest in the certificate. I believe that the student edition of the webbook fits in perfectly.

10.     To support adoption, a 15% introductory “Super Smash” discount is available on all webbook units (including the Student Edition) for those who sign up early.
