Meaningful Gamification to Help Keep the Reader Focused and Interested
- Did you know that Jeopardy has become a popular and effective tool for learning in educational settings of all levels?
- How easy do you think it would be to design and apply a Jeopardy game into a traditional textbook or an eBook?
- What are your thoughts about incorporating Jeopardy and other meaningful games into learning?
In my previous post, I highlighted the features of the Interactive Webbook on Heavy Civil Construction Materials and Methods, detailing the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for planning, cost estimating, scheduling, or construction of heavy civil projects. One of those features is creating content that helps keep the reader focused and interested.
We chose to design the book as an interactive webbook because webbooks open up a whole new world of learning, offering a chance to deliver extensive and engaging interactive content that helps gamify the learning experience.
This allows us to deliver new and exciting interactive content that is project-based and reflects real-project scenarios.
We aim to keep the learner engaged with various interactive content types, including H5P content, calculators, simulators, and other tools.
In the book Play to Learn by Sharon Boller and Karl Kapp, the authors conclude that carefully designed, developed, and implemented interactive learning games are effective for learning.
The Interactive Webbook on Heavy Civil Construction Materials and Methods features over 200 interactive and engaging H5P content, more than 10 construction equipment production rate calculators, one simulation application for work planning and cost estimating, and one simulation application for daily cost analysis. Additionally, an interactive spreadsheet is available for simulating construction progress using a trend chart.
The ability to add gamification to today’s knowledge content and help engage and focus the reader was one of the reasons we decided to design the book as a webbook instead of a traditional book or eBook.
Before the official release of the webbook, feel free to try out some of the games embedded in the blog posts, and get ready to be amazed by how meaningful gamification can enhance learning!
You are welcome to play-to-learn.
Time to upskill, get ahead, and level up your career. Use the knowledge from our webbook to advance your career and consistently improve project outcomes.
We are passionate about sharing our extensive industry experience with students, young professionals, and seasoned professionals. We want to provide affordable access to what we know, and a webbook checks all the boxes for us. We also wanted learning to be fun and not boring. Learning should be fun!
